Eligibility Requirements
When getting a student loan in Canada, you can either fill out an application form for a federal loan which is offered on a national or a provincial level. If you live in the Saskatchewan province, there are certain eligibility requirements that you need to meet. Here are the basic requirements that you should fulfill. First, you should have lived in the Saskatchewan area for the past twelve months or so – before the first day of your study period. Otherwise, if you just moved to Saskatchewan, your residency status will be considered under the workforce category.
As a student, there are also eligibility requirements that you need to meet in order to apply for a financial aid. First, you should be enrolled or qualified to enroll on a full-time basis. The enrollment should be done at a qualified college, international college or university. When you say full-time, you should be enrolled in at least 60% of a full course load per term. Remember that the student loan programs provided by the government are still based on the needs of each individual student. As soon as you have access to additional funds, inform the office of the National Student Loans Service Centre or the Saskatchewan Student Financial Assistance Branch. This way, the amount of the funds that you will receive will be adjusted – because you should not be in debt any more than you have to. Finally, learn how to manage your college finances properly so that when repayment period comes, paying off your student loan will be a lot easier.
